Over the past week we have seen a number of random acts of kindness from some of the music industry’s biggest stars.
Kanye West recently gave a pair of custom Yeezys to a fan who is paralyzed from he shoulders down. Tyler Wesley’s C-4 vertebrae break was a result of a life-changing car accident. In addition to the Yeezy Boost 350 V2 in cream white, the fan also received a handwritten letter. Wesley’s vertebrae fracture had doctors telling him that he might not be able to ever walk again. However, with the assistance of therapists and a walker, Wesley’s condition has been improving. Back in May, for the five-year anniversary of his accident, he wrote: “Years ago I thought my life was over knowing that I was going to be in a wheelchair for the rest of my life. But now, I am not ashamed of being in a wheelchair.”
Kendrick Lamar purchased a van for a quadriplegic fan named Jennifer Phillips. Phillips is a victim of a car accident in 2007 that left her with a spinal cord injury, and she has been using a wheelchair ever since. Jennifer, however, kept her head up throughout the years, going on to finish college and partaking in physically challenging activities such as skiing. She also attended many music concerts, including eight of Kendrick Lamar’s shows. In 2016, Phillips made a GoFundMe page to raise money for a modified van in order to make traveling easier and more convenient.
Kendrick Lamar, touched by her story, decided to purchase Phillips a new van. Jennifer took to social media to showcase her new gift, along with an autographed DAMN. jacket Kendrick gave her. He wrote in a note: “Thank you for always supporting me. You’re a inspiration for me. You are strong and positive. You’re kind and beautiful. For all the years of inspiring me, the least I can do is make sure you’re comfortable driving the city. A gift from me to you. You’re always appreciated! — K. Lamar.” Because of Kendrick, her GoFundMe page is no longer active. Check out her Instagram post below.
So about last night… lol. If you know me or even just look in my Instagram profile for two minutes then you know I am a huge Kendrick Lamar and TDE fan/supporter for YEARS. I’ve been to every show Kendrick has had in Dallas including the first one that even he forgot about lol and one in Austin. That’s 8 shows and not including the other TDE artists shows. I was a big fan of music and concerts before my injury but I never supported and loved a label like theirs before. Of course they have great music but they are also great people. None of them have ever treated me like a stranger or a charity case lol. I didn’t meet them because I’m in a wheelchair. I just know great people (shout out to @bluethegreat for the initial in person introduction to Dot & Q). I never supported them for any benefits like this lol. Their music and shows were enough for me. But this is amazing and I thank you from the bottom of my heart. I love you all and always will. Thank God for you Kendrick and I will continue to pray for you. And like I said, next time I’m driving myself to your show lol. Thanks to the whole team! #tde
